About this trial

A more targeted approach to treating axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA)

Axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) is a chronic inflammatory condition that primarily affects the spine and sacroiliac joints, causing persistent pain, stiffness, and reduced mobility. It typically develops between the ages of 20 and 40 and often runs in families. Approximately 1 in 150 Australians are estimated to live with axSpA, and many face a long road to diagnosis, sometimes taking up to 10 years. Without proper treatment, the condition can progress to spinal fusion, osteoporosis, and serious mobility loss.

Current treatments typically work by broadly suppressing the immune system, which can carry significant side effects. This trial is evaluating a potential new oral medication that targets a specific enzyme involved in inflammation, offering a more precise and convenient way to manage flare-ups and helping researchers identify the most effective dose for future studies.
Unlike current treatments that broadly suppress the immune system, this investigational oral therapy targets a specific enzyme involved in inflammation, aiming for a more precise and convenient approach to managing axSpA.
