For adults aged 18–75 with a diagnosis of severe alopecia areata who have lost at least half of their scalp hair for six months or more. Conducted at our South Brisbane clinic.
Current treatments don't work for everyone, and for those with severe forms of the condition, including total scalp, facial, and body hair loss, effective options can be limited. This trial is evaluating a new investigational treatment administered by intravenous (IV) infusion that may offer new hope for people living with severe alopecia areata.
There is a 75% chance of receiving the investigational treatment rather than a placebo, and all participants are closely monitored for one hour after each infusion by our medical team.
Eligibility
Do you qualify?
Males aged 18–60 or females aged 18–75
Have a diagnosis of severe alopecia areata: 50% loss of scalp hair or all hair on the scalp, and/or face, and body, for 6 months or more
Other types of hair loss such as traction alopecia, scarring alopecia, or male/female pattern baldness
No scalp conditions that could interfere with the trial such as psoriasis, dermatitis, or fungal infections
Eligible participants will be randomly assigned to receive either the investigational treatment or a placebo via IV infusion, with a 75% chance of receiving the active treatment. Each infusion lasts approximately one hour, followed by a one-hour observation period to monitor for any side effects.
Participants will attend 13 clinic visits at our South Brisbane clinic over 36 weeks. All procedures will be explained clearly, and participants can ask questions at any time.
